If you are thinking of installing solar panels in your home, you can’t just walk into a hardware shop and buy the first solar panel kit you see. There are various types of solar panel kits available in the market. You must know all about these before deciding which one to buy as per your requirement.
Two basic types of solar panel kits exist:
1. The first type converts sun’s energy into heat. The heat energy produced by these panels can be used to heat water. The pipes that carry the water, heat it using heat energy trapped by a heat collector. This process is called passive thermal heating. Water can get really hot in these systems.
2. The second type generates electricity from sun’s energy. These are called solar power kits. This type of solar power kit utilizes photovoltaic cells to produce electricity. When sunlight falls on these cells, DC (direct current) electricity is produced. Under this category, there are two sub- categories:
a.) Stand- Alone home power kit: A homemade solar power generator can take care of the electricity needs of your household. The advantage of this type of system is that it doesn’t require a grid.
b.) Hybrid home power kit: In this system, you can connect your solar panels to an electricity grid. This way, if your solar power system generates more electricity than what you use, your company will pay you for it.
These solar panel kits are available in two forms : Do- It- Yourself or professionally installed. Depending on the cash and time you have, you can opt for either of these. A DIY kit is cheaper than a professionally installed one because you have to put in all the hard work.
Whatever the type of solar panel you install and for whatever purpose, you can rest assured that it will give you a great performance and value for money.
